Doesn't anyone have the HD 4770 in stock?

What's the holdup?

Edit: On a calmer note, when are the high end vids based on 40nm technology supposed to make their appearance?

why not just buy a 4850?

there are like four or five that are at under $100AR (~$120 before) at newegg. 4770's have mostly been 110. the power savings is somewhere around 30w at maximum draw. that's 2.5a of 12v per card. not much.

Actually, I have a 4850 in my own box matched with a 650W Corsair PSU.

This next vid is for my nephew who has a 450W PSU. I forget the brand name but it could be Flower.

I think ATI might be doing this to get rid of 4830/4850s. In fact, ATI won't even let partners release OC versions of 4770 because it is so fast.

However, the official answer is that yields with 40nm are poor.

I've noticed the lack of HD 4770's as well, they seem to go in and out of stock very quickly so they must be a great seller. I don't really understand it myself because the 4850 is not much more expensive and faster?

I noticed that the XFX Radeon HD 4850 XXX is sometimes priced very close to the 4770 so why would anyone bother with a 4770? 😕

40nm may be holding up production some, but I think the initial delivery of the 4770 was only like 50,000 units. Demand probably put a strain on that pretty darn quick, especially if there were any OEMs involved.

Oh im sure the demand was higher than expected. But the documented 40nm issues are going to be pushing back the next gen as well to Q4 for AMD and possibly Q1 for nV 🙁

If Mcdonalds made 3 Big Macs in a whole day, and they all sold out, you could call that demand, or you could call that short supply.

Although we as enthusiats tend to think we are the center of the world, most people have no idea that the 4770 is the first marketed 40nm card, that it overclocks well, and that it uses less power than the 4850.

Most people walk into Best-Buy or Frys or look at an e-tailer and pick the card with the highest numbers on the box.

Instead of going around in circles, can we just say that their initial allocation is probably dried up and everyone is waiting for more? I don't have the energy to watch another idiotic forum ego fight happen today over something as trivial as supply and demand.

Well, not quoting Fud, it's been pretty well talked about that TSMC is/was having some tough times with 40nm. It is no surprise that there are limited amounts of 40nm chips to go around at this time. It'll improve. It always does.

I'm going to say a combination of both. A great seller, and 40nm issues. It's a good card for a good price. Can't take that away from it.

Not disputing yields - as is the general rumour. I just don't get the great prices with bonus games - and than run out of cards? The great prices on all the other ati cards, does make me wonder if something new is hoping to emerge.

NCIX has them available for System Builds only, but had some PowerColor stocked last week. They claim to be able to Order them and get them in 1-2 weeks. I'm waiting for them to be In Stock before considering a Purchase. Just have to be patient.

But look at the prices. Think you can get a 4850 cheaper. Besides oem system build doesn't appeal.
