Does youtube suck for everyone?

I can't tell if its my connection at work or home, the browsers or flash or what... but youtube is slow as hell. If I full screen it has to reload, if I go back to windowed, reload. If it stops playing to buffer, it won't actually buffer until I click on a point before where the video stopped. Changing video quality does nothing unless I set it to like 240i.

My home connection is like 24/10 from comcast... it should be fine.

never had a problem with Youtube, 98% of my monthly bandwidth usage is watching HD Youtube videos. I could be wrong, but I don't remember a single time where a video's paused to buffer.

I have a similar experience. Rarely use youtube as a result, since it's so slow.

Same here. I thought it was just me.

.

I've found that it largley depends on the video. I have no idea how youtube distributes videos, but it appears a lot of the lesser popular videos tend to load a LOT slower, but not always.

you nailed it. youtube and comcast have had issues together for years, although it seemed better for a while. like you, now i get slow / barely any loading at 720 or 1080 and reloading / restarting video. this is with any browser.

On occasion I have had issues with Youtube, but 90% of the time it works great. Sometimes certain videos don't play well, these are mostly from Users with a small amount of Vids/Views, so that's probably a low priority thing with Youtube.

Youtube is slow as hell and this is common. It's better than it was a year ago but I still have buffering issues and it's not my connection. Also their recently code change to limit the ability to pre-buffer certain videos (if not all?), which was the best way to get around this is freaking irritating. Previously you could load a video and as soon as it started playing hit pause and let the entire thing download, then play it. Now they don't allow that, so no matter how long you wait if you try and skip to the end later on for example it will want to buffer that again.

Every so often I get this when watching full screen (HD) on my TV. I just change the quality to 480p or 360p, and it goes away. Then the next video I go back to HD.

I run into the same thing at times, from both work and at home. Most of the videos load in a matter of seconds, but a select few I'll have to wait many times longer than the video itself for it to work as it'll play for a few seconds, pause, load, and repeat.

All the time here. I literally never had this issue till recently. It's to the point I just avoid YT altogether. I'm on Verizon FiOS here.

Ive got comcast too and I get the same thing, I wonder if theyre trying to throttle YT

I don't think it's and issue of throttling but one of peering. Comcast doesn't want to build a strong enough peering relationship with Google to provide the necessary bandwidth their customers use.

I'm not on Comcast and I only have this issue with videos that don't have a lot of views, or haven't had a lot of views in many months or years. Nothing close to the extent the OP is talking about. 75% or more play without issue and with at most a short bit of buffering.

I have no issues with loading speed, but I have found that lately videos will only buffer a certain amount ahead of the video. It will stop about 30 seconds or so ahead and will only buffer at the speed the video plays at.

It's hit and miss, seems some videos load fine, others will get stuck in the loading loop and never actually play properly. you can refresh a bunch of times or come later, then it's ok.

I usually open all the videos I want to watch and pause them, minimize and do something else, then come back later.
