For me they corresponds to each other... My Windows desktop only have a handful of icons arranged neatly in one corner... And my real desktop is the same, with just a single pile of documents in the right bottom corner...

Hmm, disturbing that my first thought when reading this thread, given that I use a desktop manager program to create additional desktops on my computer, was "well, how exactly wouldn't they correspond?"

I assume this means "Windows/Linux/MAC/whatever Desktop" vs "The thing that the PC sits on." Here I was thinking about the Virtual Desktop option with some videocards, that lets you set a resolution higher than what is displayed, allowing you to scroll around on the desktop. "Real" never translated to "physical desktop." The real does not exist!

Anyway - my room is a mess, desk included. My PC is neat and organized - files are organized and given descriptive names (you got 255 characters to play with, not 8 - so use them!), defragged weekly, desktop is neat...cleaning a PC is so much easier than cleaning a real desktop.
