Does your university use your SS# as your student number?

Just got an email that our school (University of Florida) switched finally and now we have a seperate student number, not just our Social Security number... Our SS#'s will be phased out by the end of Jan.

What does your school use?

They do for certain things that only "YOU" have access too. Other things use a name you came up with for security measures.

And the gov said that Ss #'s would never be used for Identification

Yes, and we always get those people that yell about "It's illegal to make our SSN a unique identifier!" and I just have to laugh. These are the same people who yell about we never walked on the moon.

It is a good way to publish your SS# 😉

Or maybe the school thinks this is the point of email:
A: "What's your email address"
B: "What?!? You want to steal my identity?"
A: "Huh?"
B: "Don't pretend! I will never give out my email address to anyone!!!"

We have a student ID at Drexel, but if you don't know it (which I don't), it can be substituted by your SSN.
