Does your supervisor/manager superior ever ask you do things directly?

Just wondering if this is common in the work place if you to sometimes get request from your supervisors/manager's manager. If my supervisor/manager is busy his boss will usually ask me directly if it needs to be done ASAP, or if the task is minor and quick I will be asked directly.

Just wondering if this is common.

No. My manager rarely asks me to do anything either. I usually only see my manager once or twice a week crossing paths in a hallway.

Yes, 99% of the time, I am the only one who gives my staff directives, and the same is true for me; way more often than not, the building Administrator is the only one who gives me directives.

It probably makes a big difference if you work in a very small environment and see people all the time.

This

I've worked in large companies and only saw my direct supervisor. Now that I work for a very small company, I interact directly with everyone from top to bottom.

You HAVE to be told to make the Fries?
I thought part of your job was to keep the Fry basket filled, no?

A couple of times. It didn't go over well because 1) She's not actually my supervisor's manager but the manager of a different group of supervisors and 2) She was giving us the 'shit work' (ie the stuff no one wants to do) from one of her teams.

Thankfully it hasn't happened again for a long time. I don't know if that's because someone complained or what.

A few times my supervisor's supervisor's supervisor's supervisor (ie the director) has also asked me to get something done quickly. I don't mind since she's actually in my chain of command.
