Does your spouse or SO do this?

MichaelD

Lifer
Preface: I realize that if this is the only thing wrong in my relationship, that I'm damn lucky. 🙂 That said, on with Ye'olde Bashing!

Does your spouse do this?

/your turn to order, you step up to the counter

You: I want "chicken, fries and a coke"
SO: I want "burger, beans and a coke"

(actual menu items changed to protect said menu items)

And then when the food comes and you are eating...she asks for a bite of your food...and another bite...and whines about how she doesn't like her food...

:| I can't tell you how annoying this is to me. We've HAD this conversation 100 times (not an exaggeration...) I even have learned to say "Honey, the chicken DOES look good...why dont' you order some chicken too...then we can EAT THE SAME THING!!!!!"

Oh, but frrrrrrricken NO. She wants the polar opposite of what I'm having...and then wants half of mine.

Is this just another ploy for attention? I can afford to buy another order of fries....OR FIVE ORDERS OF FRICKIN' FFFFFFRIES JUST FOR HER!!!!! But noooooooooooo. She wont' order the fries. She'll just eat half of mine.

Please tell me your SO does the same damn thing so I don't feel so alone in my idiosyncratic hot button mental world....

My SO always likes what I order more than what she orders so I usually give it to to her and eat what she ordered.

Nope, it has never happened to me, Michael. We usually order different things because we have different tastes. More often than not the wife is very pleased with what she has and insists that I have a bite or two, or three. I appreciate the gesture, but if I had wanted that particular menu item I would have ordered it. To keep peace, though, I have always just kept my mouth shut, so to speak, and tasted the food she offers me. It's a hell of a lot easier than getting into a fight.

Yeah, I'm a spineless wuss.

You= Man who is probably adored by his SO.

OP=Goddamn selfish prick who needs to get dumped, stat.

I thought I was the only one with this problem. I always tell my wife she better order what she wants and if she wants some of what Im having she needs to order her own. I guess its the animalistic side of me. I am very protective of my food and always eat very quickly. Guess I'd didn't evolve much from cave man.

I have never found MichaelD to be selfish, although I tend to agree with the rest of your description. 🙂

OK...so when you're ordering...how do you steer her to order what YOU want to eat? It's gotten beyond frustrating. I will hold up the line (I hate it when people do this...😱 ) specifically to INTERROGATE her "Is that what you REALLY want? Dont' you want XYXZ?"

I enjoy eating out, whether it's Mickey D's or a nice place and I don't mind spending the cash so she doesn't have to cook. But dammit, I want to eat what I ordered without your frickn' fork in my plate every other bite.

It's what I read on another board on which his SO posts.

We usually share what we eat anyway so there's none of this. Frequently we'll both figure out what we want to have a variety of tastes available.

You could always assume the stance of dominance and order for both of you. Problem solved.

i learned long ago to order more than what you think you'll need to be full cause the hawks always come.

Mike,

She doesn't want to order her own fries because to do such would make her feel piggish. There are times when one has a taste for fries but eating an entire order wouldn't be appropriate.

My suggestion, one that we use here, order the large size of things like fries, then you can split them. Alternatively, plan your order with sharing in mind, each of you ordering something that the other would like to eat.

Sharing different dishes gives you both a bigger variety of tastes and is a big part of the fun in dining out IMHO.

Some good suggestions here; just when you think you know most of everything, the smallest little issues come marching forward to completely confuse you. So, I appreicate the "Hey, try this" suggestions. 🙂

Mrs. MichaelD and I get along very well; that's why we got married in the first place. 🙂 I'm just...protective about my food. She can order ANYTHING...OR FIVE OF EVERYTHING off the menu. I don't mind. But this is MINE. You eat what YOU ORDERED, OK?

Now, sometimes at a new place, neither of us has any idea if this or that is good or sometimes even "WTF is "Chicken Ala Buffe Vodka Basil?" So, I order "this" and she gets "that" and we get to try two new things. That's cool b/c it's agreed upon and expected.

But when it's McDonalds for cryin' out loud...you KNOW the the McChicken is chicken....YOU ordered it. Let me eat my burger....how about I buy YOU your own burger?

Noooo. Mine has the special sauce or something. Oh snap...I made an "innuendo joke." 😀 I'm cool tonight.

It does not count if she did not pay for it. 😛

I think this may be pretty close to the truth. It's like people who quit smoking, but what they really did was quit buying cigarettes :^D
