does your ps3 resume on dvd playback if you shut it off?

if i pause a movie (dvd or bd) and turn it off, the next time i start it up it doesn't resume from the pause/stop point. it'll start from teh beginning as if i just put in the dvd.

is there a setting to change this?

Mine does the same thing. I wish there was a way to change this, but I haven't found any information on if/how it can be done.

Does it work like the 360 HD-DVD add-on? This could be a movie specific thing so I'm really not sure. I do know that when watching certain HD-DVD titles I was able to bookmark my location via the menu.

do you turn it off, as in the back switch? or put it into standby?
i'm not sure if this would even have an effect. I'm so used to simply taking a mental note of the time stamp of where I was (by bringing up the chapter info), that I don't even think of trying any other way. For me there is no difficulty in that. I think an auto-resume feature might exist, but I haven't looked through the options available in the settings so not entirely sure.

not the back switch, just standby i guess (the red LED stays on).

i googled it and apparently it's not an option :|

Are you serious? You can't resume from where you left off with a PS3?? Is this a PS3 issue or a Blu-Ray issue?
