At one time, people who transported parrots out of Mexico illegally, got them mildy drunk, which tended to quiet them down for the border crossing.
Years ago when I had a parrot, and also tamed and sold locally captured wild ones, it was important to trim the flight feathers and talons to increase their value.
Parrots really dislike having their claws clipped. One standard solution was to wrap the parrot up in a towel with one leg at a time sticking out. That could undo much of the trust that the taming process had achieved, at the early stages.
A 6" by 2' piece of PVC was bought, with caps for both ends. One cap got drilled with maybe 6, 1/4" holes. The other got a single 'inlet' hole.
A stoned parrot is a very congenial parrot.
My parrot was a pretty good talker, regardless, but when under the influence he would string together just about every word and phrase he knew into one long and seemingly endless monologue.
At that time in my life, along with some friends, it was always a damn entertaining event. Most would say that that green buzzard enjoyed a good buzz.
