Does your motherboard make noise when you're scrolling ?

Either in the BIOS or via a jumper on your M/B

It IS the motherboard, or some component on it. I've had PCs that do this (or the opposite - make a faint, high-putched noise when the CPU is idle) before.

I can also hear some monitors making a similar high-pitched whining noise. Many people can't hear it. I think the pitch is right around the upper boundary of human hearing, and I have ears more sensitive than most. I hear the same sort of sound out of some PCs.

one bad thing about built in sound cards is the interference and the resulting high piched squeels and such. I have never had this problem with a PCI sound card.

I used to think it was my mouse ...

Only tonight I realized it does it when scrolling with the keyboard.


Windows scrolling type sound but really high pitch and faint.

It does have built in sound but its disabled .. PCI soundcard.

I'm betting the sound isn't coming from any speakers. I've tried that before, unplug them and you stil lget the sound, because it's actually coming from something on the motherboard.

I had that problem with a computer once... I solved it by replacing the video card...

the whine from monitors is from the flyback transformer. i can't think of anything similar to that on a mobo. that's pretty damn weird.

No, it is.. there's nothing on the motherboard that makes audible noises like this.. I know what he's talking about, it was a big problem with socket7 systems for some reason.

And yeah, it's something to do with the board.. but not necessarily the motherboard itself. Some sort of conflict... I can't remember what would sometimes fix it? Maybe it was Spread Spectrum? Don't remember if you turn it on or off though.

are you sure it's from the mobo and not the power supply?

after seraching around a bit it seems coils on some mobos could whine. dunno how ot fix that though... maybe you can try to narrow it down first

Just saw something while Googling it may have to do with bad Creative drivers.

I do have a Soundblaster Live card.
