Does your LCD have input lag?

Once you answer the poll, please post the name of your LCD along with your answer!

The only two LCDs I've ever used are the:

Samsung 710n
Benq FP202w

And both had very slight input lag that drove me crazy. I'm talking about input lag not reponse time. You can feel it while using the mouse on the desktop. I would describe it as making the mouse movements feel squishy and not crisp like on a CRT.

In fact, having this very small delay with these LCDs was enough for me to go back to using a CRT for now.

By the way I tested these LCDs one at a time with DVI and then VGA.

System specs:

Pentium 4 2.8c
2 GB RAM
Radeon 9800pro (with newest drivers)
Logitech MX510 mouse (with newest drivers)

So my question is:

1. Do most/all LCDs have noticeable input lag and people are just accepting it and using them anyway?

The effects on the 710N you were seeing were likely because of refresh rate differences. That monitor doesn't use overdrive, and several people have reported such monitors as having absolutely no input lag. I have heard of the Dell 2405FPW having input lag and the Samsung 244t, but I've also heard that small or older 17" monitors do not have the problem.

Wow, it really shows up in that video. I remember when I switched to an LCD a couple of years back, I could tell there was some kind of difference in Q3 with the aiming, especially with the railgun, but couldn't put my finger on it. It took me a couple of weeks to get used to it, now I don't notice it at all.

i just picked up my first LCD after using my 19" flat trinitron for years. i havnt noticed any differences in control at all. I grabbed a Sceptre 19" widescreen LCD. res is 1440x900. i absolutely LOVE widescreen and now i wouldnt go back to my CRT ( BTW the black recreation has gone up drastically since the last time i tried one and REALLY looked for it, this thing is just about as good as my CRT.)

1905fp, i notice it, just as you describe.

the thing is I didn't really notice it until I went back to a crt for a while, and the cursor seemed to move faster and then I realized what was happening. input lag really sucks

grab a cheap crt, hook it up. use it for a few minutes. then go back to your beloved dell. you'll see the squishy mouse movements. 🙁 sorry for ruining your monitor for you.

I don't notice it on my 90GX2 as long as I have the refresh rate at 75hz. It seems to mainly be an issue with larger LCDs.

Yes, my mouse is more sluggish or at least more difficult to precisely place than on my old CRT (I have a 2405 fpw), but I have a problem with the description of "input lag."

The monitor has nothing to do with input, or the speed of the mouse cursor. Nothing. The operating system updates the position of the cursor in video memory when you use the mouse, and when the monitor draws the next frame it draws the mouse in the new position. That's all. So if there is an issue, it is with the slower update time of LCD panels.

A lot of people dont even realise they have input lag until doing a timer test with a CRT running next to it (clone mode). There's a video here with a CRT and Dell 2405FPW which clearly shows it: Link

I dont know about you guys but I certainly wouldnt want that kind of lag present when gaming online.

I have this so badly on my 2001fp. I dropped so much cash on it right when it first came out because I thought it would be perfect, it's not, It's been driving me nuts for so long.

MAKE IT STOP.

No, Samsung 914v.

Maybe I'm not perceptible enough - this is an analog monitor with horrible response time and I really can't see any ghosting in gaming (i think i see some during video playback, though).

I use a CRT everyday, and I still don't notice it on my LCD...

Whoever said anything about a "beloved Dell" anyway? The 2005FPW is a good, reasonably priced widescreen LCD, but certainly far from the best.

edit: anyone ever think that the reason that some people notice the lag and others don't is because of differences in other hardware? Perhaps having a decent, high dpi mouse that is very responsive may reduce the lagging feel to the end user. Perhaps it stems from the DVI outputs on some cards. Perhaps it's the LCD... I'm not sure, and I'm not going to say that it doesn't exist (the videos prove that it does). I haven't ever looked into this becasue I've never noticed it on my LCD, nor am I going to start looking for it now.

2405 here. I can't say I have ever noticed any sort of lag. Is it there I have no idea. I can say this is is the best and most noticiable upgrade I have ever done though.

No input lag whatsoever with my (Samsung) 204B run at 1600x1200@60Hz. My mouse (MX1000) cursor moves almost as smoothly as an equivalent wired unit.

I just got a 21" samsung 215 TW widescreen today. No lag here.

That's bizzare. That would drive me nuts if it did that. I couldnt' live with that. Maybe it is some other hardware or something to do with DVI or drivers when using dvi. Who knows.

Edit: It's also possible that since the LCD is a much higher res that it's causeing the lag like that. Maybe something doesnt like that res. Could be anything.

Also I used to get that mouse lag and squishy feel really bad on my CRT also. sometimes some games would do it or demos. I dont know why. Software or settting isssue most likely in that case.

I have a Dell 2405FPWm before this I had a Hyundai L90D+ and before that an old HP 15" LCD. All my games run nice and crisp never really experienced any type of lag with any of my LCDs.
