I think having my own father call me "son" would be more personal than him calling me the same thing that everyone else calls me.

As others have stated, OP is retarded. He wouldn't call you "son" all of the time unless he was proud to be your father. That's a good thing.

 
my Dad calls me "Butch".

it's not my name, not even close. apparently in the old days, this was the nickname given to the first-born son.

My Dad does that too, but not so much lately. My name is nothing like Butch either.

He calls me son a lot, always has. There is nothing weird about it to me.
