Does your father call you "son"?

Ryan

Every e-mail my dad writes, or when he calls - he doens't use my name, just "Son" 😕

That just seems odd to me...anyone think so too?

Yes, it's completely weird that your father calls you son.

It jsut seems really impersonal to me - like when we're talking, instead of saying "Hey Ryan...", he'll say "Hey Son....".

That doens't sound really impersonal to you guys?

Nope...although I've had a number of OTHER male adults call me "son" before. I think one of these times I'm going to have to use the "I'm not your fvcking son" line 😀

My biological parents have only referred to me as their son when they were in legal environments or have needed to verify it.

My adopted parents, while I'm no actual relation to them, refer to me as son quite a bit. Most of the time, Dad does it when he's trying to get me to do something for him. 😛 "Son, go outside and mow the yard for me..." vs "Hey Andrew, dinner's ready!"

I think having my own father call me "son" would be more personal than him calling me the same thing that everyone else calls me.

No actually, using your name sounds more impersonal to me.

funny...you think its bad that he calls you son...but you've only referred to him as dad...not his name...wow...the irony

You never know, he may be using it as a term of endearment rather than something to try to alienate you or put himself above you.

No, it sounds like he's proud that you're his son.
