Does your employer subtract bereavement from your total PTO?

no, but since we're talking about ptos

with wachovia, you get your pto, and 10 days family care leave (sucks for people who are not married and/or with kids)
now with wells fargo you get more pto days (+5 days) but family care leave is counted as pto.... (makes it more fair ??)
now i can give my middle finger to the people who fakes a family care day to use up all their 10 days every year. me and my wife, we don't get sick... i guess i have my health to thank for that.

No. We get paid five days of bereavement.

How many relatives can you have that you need 5 days per year?

that's what I was gonna say...

but so far as I understand we get a certain amount of PTO and that covers EVERYTHING. The only exception i can think of is pregnancy.

Nope. We get something like 5 days for a member of our immediate family and 2 days for a member of our extended family.

No, and there aren't really any policies regarding it... something like 3 days normally, and can be longer at manager's discretion.

If they make you take regular PTO, then it's not really bereavement leave, is it?

Kinda. We get 5 days of bereavement leave for immediate family members. If they're not immediate family members, it's taken out of our PTO.
