Yes CPU does afect your scores. But dont worry 3dMark is meant to get an Idea of your systems performance dont base verything off of it. Also that is pretty close to the margin of error.

If it runs fine for you dont worry about.

Well, I did a little testing myself...I cranked up my CPU to 207FSB and overclocked my 9800 Pro to his specs also. Here are my results...

Now, this is with Catalyst 4.7 drivers also...

AMD 2500+ @ 207x11 = 2288MHz (Thermalright SP-97 w/ Panaflo H1 92mm & AS5)
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro @ 412/365
EPoX 8RDA3+ Rev. 3.2
1024MB Corsair Twin1024-3200C2Pro (512MBx2)
Thermaltake PurePower 480w PSU
Cooler Master Praetorian (Modded Clear Side Panel /w Thermaltake 120mm Blue LED Fan)
Antec Cyclone Blower
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 SATA 200GB 8MB 7200RPM
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 ATA 120GB 8MB 7200RPM
Plextor PX-708A
Lite-On 52x32x52x16 Combo Drive
Sony 3½ FDD
NEC MultiSync 1700M+ LCD
Logitech MX Duo

There is every piece to my system...take the score for what it's worth...not much...

Friggin' awesome! :D

;)

Matt (Mr. "LOOK HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"), I suggest you step back from the computer for a week or two. Use the card to play some games, play around with its settings--just avoid benchmarking. It'll do both you and this forum some good.

I understand that using the on-board AC '97 for sound uses cpu cycles. The guy you linked has a sound card, possibly taking the load off the cpu, and increasing his (cpu) score.

I notice that manzelle is using the onboard audio and his score is lower than the other guy.

Just a thought..

Even though the original poster has been banned, this topic has relevance. The onboard sound (specifically MCP-T) has been shown to actually reduce the amount of dependancy on the CPU. In this case he is better off using onboard sound than using a separate sound card.

Doesn't the OP have a 9800Pro? The 3DMark score he linked to is a rig with an XT. That should make a difference too.

I realize that. What I have been trying to do (unsuccessfully) is to show magratton that this guy did OC his 9800Pro, which is most likely why it is damaged. If mynewrigissick was running his Pro as he claims in comparison to an XT;
plus my engine clock is clocked higher than his, same with my memory
...than he is running it out of spec and hopefully magratton won't back him on his RMA. This really isn't a witch hunt. We were all young once, and I can even appreciate his enthusiasm for hardware. I would like to see him back on AT forums after he learns his lesson, accepts some responsibility, and can share his experiences with others who might make the same mistakes and bork their hardware.

Great link. I've been looking for it for some time. Thanks

It shows how big a disadvantage there is to using the AC'97 for sound
