Does your computer do what you want it to?

I keep seeing these benchmark comparisons people posting and asking about, and I keep thinking it is akin to looking at Cosmo magazine, and chicks comparing themselves to the people in those. It seems strange.

So does your computer give you the frame rates you need in games? Or does it load up Mathematica or 3DS Max fast enough and process the info at a rate that you are proud of?

EDIT: Me, I'm quite happy with my machine, despite the fact that it's aging. It still gets respect. :)

It does my Divx coding (don't care if it takes 21 mins instead of 20)
It does my DVD backups (4mins, oh noes it should be 3m56s)
I haven't a clue what the FPS is in games - it plays them and looks pritty.

who really cares that HL2 runs at 35 instead of 40 when the human eye can only visualise upto 25.

who really cares that you can gain an extra 3 seconds during the boot-up stage

Are all your lives that busy

It does what I want, just not fast enough. But it'll get me by until I can justify upgrading.

My last one could have been plenty sufficient (xp2500) but the motherboard has leaky capacitors so I upgraded to a 64 3000+

Haven't upgraded in 5 years and won't until everything breaks, which is probably going to be any day now. It does everything I need it to do, and not being able to play the newest games just saves me some money.

Mine doesn't quite cut it for some of the newest games, but I need to wait another year before upgrading I think. I'm currently on the hunt for a cheap 6600GT or the likes to replace my Ti4200 vid card, and that will be the last upgrade. If I weren't married and had plenty of other expenses, I'd be a bit more current with my technology.

For the most part, yeah. CPU is getting a little slow, but I'll probably be holding off for a few more months and then upgrading everything.

I want my computers to wash my dishes and do my laundry. It doesn't do these things.

However, when it comes to computing, My Computers perform at a level that I am happy with.

Such a refined machine. I really am amazed to this day what PC Computers have done for us. Everything at the click of one button.:)

cpu and gfx are getting slow. well, they aren't getting slow, software is getting more demanding. i haven't done a full upgrade (being defined as cpu, ram, and gfx being swapped at the same time) since march of 1999.

Mine runs fine for anything i need to do. For newer games it chugs quite a bit but I don't play many new games anyways. I'd like to upgrade but i really have to practical reason too. So until I do or this one breaks, I'll be sticking with it. if you told me 4 years ago i'd still have the same computer now I probably would have cried.

I've been using the same laptop for almost three years now with no complaints, Inspiron 8200 if anyone is wondering. I'll probably end up using it daily till it dies reall. Does everything I want it to do so I see no real reason to upgrade.
