Does your company keep workers who should be fired?

It's almost impossible to get fired from the company I work for. They will lay people off to save money (if the CEO needs another yacht). They just don't want to fire people for poor performance. What's it like where you work?

No, they not hiring. I would be happy if they just fire the slackers and hire intelligent, hard working people. I've even suggested that.

Ya, it's the same at where I work. One in particular, she is completely rude to all her co-workers, and even to the bosses themselves, yet they won't fire her because they feel like they wouldn't be able to do without her.

Late last year, she told the bosses she was looking for another job because they wouldn't give her a raise, and the bosses told her to improve her attitude and she'd get one. Well, the bosses caved in and gave her a freaking raise anyhow, because they thought they would be up sh!t creek without a paddle if she left. She does do a good job, but she is just the most awful person I've ever met in my life, and if she died today, I'd probably go have a beer (as bad as it is to say).

There are a couple of people at my job that I'd celebrate their demise.

The senior clinical staff and beaurocrats are safe, anyone else can get fired for the tiniest slip up.

I think all places have people that need to be fired. Its all a matter of perspective. Many of the people I know that need to get fired kiss the appropriate butt, push the right buttons with the right people and get by. Politics plays a major role.

We keep anyone around. There are 2 people in my dept that talk on the phone for the first hour or so that they are here. I seriously am getting tired of hearing about their money / relationship problems.

You've got to be kidding. I work in a union shop.

I call it strategic incompetence.
