Yes. I am guessing that the OP doesn't work for a particularly large company. 401k is just one aspect of compensation, of course, so it doesn't mean he's not still making good money.

Yes, and no. No matching contributions, but my Christmas bonus sort of goes in there. ("Profit sharing".)

The match 3% for the first 6% that you contribute. It isn't that great but we also have a Pension plan that we don't have to pay for. So this more than makes up for it.

50% match up to the allowed maximum contribution from my side, then they also kick in ~6% of comp.

They put in 5%, no match just contribute. Plus pay into my pension. Pay isn't great but retirement is.

IIRC it takes about 5-7 years to be fully vested.
