it takes roughly 1hr for any persons liver to filter 1 drink (1 shot, 12oz. beer, 8oz. wine), and this is true no matter how large, small, skinny, tall you are, or whether you are sleeping, awake, eating, or drinking. (the only exeption is someone who has an unusually small liver from defects or surgery, who shouldn't be drinking alcohol anyway) however drinking lots of fluids (water or sports drinks{if you drink sports drinks it helps to have a 1:1 ratio and drink the same amount of water to reduce vomiting}) does help with the dehidration and can reduce the affects of hangovers somewhat. This depends on the individuals tolerance to different types of alcohol.
