Does windows 95 have a device manager?

I'm trying to add a US Robotics modem in this old Packard Bell for a lady. I cannot get it to recognize for sh1t! Add Hardware does not work. When the system detects the modem it will not allow me to use the drivers.

Anywho, there is no "Device Manager" anywhere to be found. If it's supposed to be there, but isn't, exactly how do I go about restoring it?

instead of fixing this half-a$$ version of 95, lets try this:
on your drivers disk for the modem, locate folder for win95, inside find an information file for the device (.inf), and then right-click and choose Install.
This should do it. Hopefully:D

Been a long time since I've done anything with that OS and not sure about the Device Manager being in there.

Try a short cut key, by hitting the "windows key" and "pause break".

You can also right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties" in the contexual menu.

I don't know how old your packard bell is, but on some of them you had to turn the onboard com ports off in the bios to be able to add a modem to the system. If your modem has jumpers, it is better to set them to a specific interupt and com setting than using the plug and play jumper setting. Win95 and older boards were not friendly to true plug and play devices sometimes.

If it doesn't have a device manager when you right click my computer, and then click properties, then go into the control panel and look for the system icon. That should get you the info you need.

Is it a PCI, ISA or Serial Modem?....remember that Software PCI modems won't like being in a PC with less than a 400mhz CPU...they may not even work.

Try copying the drivers to the C:\ drive, this can make it easier sometimes. I have alsmot found that it can be easier to just setup the modem as a Standard 56000bps K56 Flex Modem.
