Does win2k need to be reinstalled after a motherboard change?

It's an old s370 PIII system. The mobo had leaky cap's and I managed to get my hands on a new s370 board.

Neither 2000 or XP needs to be reinstalled if the system is prepped properly beforehand.

Prolly same chipset, in which case s/b fine.

Just have a look at the mobo, the chipset ID s/b printed on it.

If you have the same IDE controller and the same HAL, you don't need to do a thing. Boot it up and have driver CDs handy.

If you have the same HAL and the IDE controller is different, then the best thing to do is to put it back into the old computer (if it still boots) and then change the IDE controller to "Standard PCI IDE", and then put it in the new computer; it will then boot fine, and you can change IDE drivers as required.

If you don't have access to the old machine, and/or the HAL is different, you can do a repair install.
