Does vented pci slots do anything?

Everyone,

I was wondering if vented pci slost do anything in terms of better cooling or does it just allow more dust bunnies into the insides?

Thoughts..

Depends. If there's positive pressure in the case some of the hot air under the GPU should blow out, but if theres negative pressure a lot of dust will get in

Yup, most superfluous venting just allows the short-circuiting of any well planned air-flow pattern. If you are sure the air flow thru them will be in the direction you intend, then try them. I've generally covered 'em with tape and things work just as well. Air, like students, electric current, and water, take the path(s) of least resistance... 😉
