Small cars don't sell well in the US.

It's a nice looking car though; I'd buy it :)

they're coming though.

part of the reason small cars don't sell well here is that they're usually super cheap economy cars. functional, but nothing you'd actually want to be in for any longer than necessary. before the bmw mini there wasn't a premium small car in the US. now we've got the mini, the A3, and S40. we're also getting the first wave of small cars that aren't completely cheap economy cars, such as the mazda3 and the new nissan sentra (though the corrola and civic were never that awful, they weren't that nice either).

typically cars similar to the Astra VXR have sold very poorly.

the Mazdaspeed 3 would be the best car we get that is similar in concept. it just came on the market, so we'll have to see if it will sell. the bigger Mazdaspeed 6 has sold very poorly here.

yea i quite like the alfa, and the high spec ibizas are nice i agree, not too keen on the others though, much prefer the citroen C4 and as for the peugeots they had something nice with the 307, then it got a facelift and it looks like a fish at the front or something, hate to see that happen Here

1. Gas is cheaper in the U.S., so fuel efficiency is not as important as it is in Europe.
2. U.S. is a big country, long interstate drives are not so much fun in small cars.
3. Except for a few big cities, there's no parking problem in the U.S.
4. Manufacturers haven't been able market smaller cars right.
etc.

I have an Alfa Romeo 147 back home but a Toyota Camry here in the U.S.

It was $2.80 per gallon, not litre. And its more like $2.20 these days.

So a liter of gas is about $0.59.

I lived in Southampton for a while but my hometown is Istanbul, Turkey.

Nah, not just England, pretty much everywhere else in Europe has the same problem as well. Ridiculously high taxes on gas...

Diesel is the way to go if you live in Europe.
