Does valentines day promote prostitution?

Think about it. It is the one day of the year that American men are sanctioned by society (perhaps even encouraged) to buy women "things" in exchange for sex.

Not that I am trying to analogize all women to prostitutes, but there is a surprising amount of overlap between what occurs on valentine's day and what occurs in your average red light district.

That whole argument can be used for all women regardless of the day for any society. Men are expected to buy "things" and show how much they "care" and can be good providers with their wealth in the attempt to hope the woman they are wooing will reciprocate with fornication. So basically the argument can be made that all men chasing women in this way are idiots and all women who put out for a man who bought her something to gain her attention is a whore.

I pay my wife for sex every day. In fact..I think paying a prostitute would be cheaper. At least then I'd be actually paying to get sex as opposed to hoping to get sex 🙂

I don't think men need a commercially invented holiday like Valentines to buy prostitutes since they have been around much longer. However, it is good marketing for them.

Any man who actually thinks he needs to buy things for sex is an idiot. I am married and don't need to buy my wife things to get sex. We have a healthy sex life. I occasionally buy her things. She occasionally buys stuff for me out of her own business account. I love watches and this year she bought me a Rolex...and didn't use my money to but it for me. The gifts and sex are not linked. V day? Nope. It is about doing something nice and an excuse to indulge/give gifts/consumerism ploy.

That's only half the equation! You don't pay a prostitute for sex, you pay them to leave after. Getting a wife to leave can cost you half. 😉

I'm sure every woman is just like yours, right?

Sounds like you have a nice one. 🙂

I don't know if the premise of this thread makes any sense, but I did go out for dinner with my gf last night and walking just a block and a half saw two obvious prostitutes walking around. I imagine guys are pretty lonely on Vtines day, that's what it's all about.
