Does using USB instead of Ethernet hinder DSL/Cable broadband connections?

From what I have read you can have about a max of 4mb/s thruput on the USB Nic... Should work just fine since you won't get anything near 4mb/s with the DSL... Of course that would change if you have other USB products utilizing some of the bandwidth..

I tried both, speed is about the same. I had system stability issues with USB cable though. Ever since I put a 10$ netgear card in the system has not had any problems.

USB is 12Mbps. Unless the networking USB standard is lower.. Where did you find 1.2Mbps? Maybe 1.5megaBYTES/sec.

Get Ethernet, you will be able to use a DSL router\hub if you need to share the connection

Definitely get a NIC, Best Buy usually has the Netgear FA311 on sale for $5 or $10 after rebate.

I was curious, b/c my friend was using his Cable connection on a USB port and I thought that his connection could be hindered. I just popped in an Intel Ethernet card; now i have 2 spare kingstons lying around. Oh yeah, and I got an Intel 5 way splitter hub too! Broadband, here I come.

From my experiences, USB and ethernet gets about the same d/ling speeds. But when I play CS, I usually ping around 20 lower on the ethernet connection.
