Does using Multiple Monitors slow down your rig?

Just curious... I used dual for quite awhile, then went up to triple, now back down to dual monitors...

Is there any slowdown with your computer if its having to draw screens at once?

i'm guessing tht it stresses the vid card atleast ... i'm running one of my rigs w/ dual displays, i wanna kno too

Not that i've noticed 🙂

I was even running a dual display way back when with my BP6 and dual 366@500, using a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI and a Matrox Mystique 220 PCI, didn't notice any slowdown then, definately not now with my GF4 Ti4200 dual screen 🙂

Confused

Not really. I did notice a bit of overall video slowdown when I had a 3 monitor setup and I ran Winamp AVS on the monitor attached to my 8 meg Millenium II.

If your using a PCI card, it can strain the PCI bus a bit at high res. Apart from that, not much in plain 2d. Obviously having move pixels is going to be slower but not by much until you get into some 3d stuff.

The difference probably isn't noticable on high-end rigs, but I can tell you it does have an impact. My P3 600MHz laptop, with an 8MB ATi video adapter shows strain when it's just outputting a cloned image on both its LCD and a TV. It has trouble just displaying a Flash animation on both screens at once without getting a bit jumpy.
