Does UPS drugtest for loaders/unloaders?

Has anyone ever met someone who is concerned about drug testing at work who's actually made more than $10/hour or held a job for more than a year? I don't think I ever have.

Way to completely generalize and stereotype the target audience Tyler.

So do they?

I cannot tell you for sure, but I would assume it's very possible since

a) parcel services were big drug rings at one point
b) they send timers out after the drivers to time your deliveries, bathroom breaks, smoking breaks, etc.
c) frito lay does, and they are a lot more small scale

UPS does NOT drug test when you first get hired. If they did 90% of their work force would get fired. The only time they drug test is if a supervisor or other employee has reason to believe that you are under the influence at work. I'm sure you could thank the Teamsters for this rule...which you will be forced to join. I won't go into a Teamster rant. I used to be a Supervisor so I know what I'm talking about.

edit:

Oh, and if they do have reason to believe that you are under the influence they will take you AT THAT MOMENT to get tested. Even if it's 1am. Just don't go to work stoned and you'll be alright. And don't get brainwashed by the Teamsters....damnit...there I go again.

Unless they do blood test or spinal tap, you can certainly pass any drug test if giving an hour warning. If urine sample is all you have to give, drink a lot of water (I mean a lot of water). Relief yourself, drink some more water, relief yourself, after the fourth time that you repeat this process, all you'll give them is just water. Your bladder would have effectively shut down and allow just water to pass through. And yes, I've done it, many many many times.

There are much easier ways to do it.

I've done this.. it does work..
Lots of water fast and use the bathroom several times before you go get tested..

Yeah.. but this is the cheapest and THE fastest way to counter.

Yeah but most places don't even mess around with a piss test and just hair test you. All the water in the world won't stop them from busting you from a hair test. You can find shampoo that will take care of that, if you use it all over your body.

I must have been out of the scene for a while, hair test? Can you elaborate? When did they started this hair testing? (no sarcasm intended)

Pluck a hair from your head (or somewhere else) and test it for traces of drugs in your system.

Way to stereotype everyone who uses drugs. Just because the government and media like to push the image of a drug-addicted fiend who's life falls apart or who becomes a hardened criminal doesn't mean its true. Look at sites like freevibe.com; they are always run by the government or a non-profit organization which is government funded. All their "anti-drug testimonials" come from 13 year old kids fresh out of DARE who don't know any better. That's why you will never find a single intelligent comment from site visitors on sites like those, and instead will see multiple posts along the lines of "mah friendz died cuz he overdosed on weed!!" Your comment showed the same caliber of thought as every single comment made by those people, except with better grammar.

Judging by your close-minded, psuedo-Puritanical comment, here are some sites you might find shocking:

http://www.maps.org/
http://www.cognitiveliberty.org/

And to answer the question of the original poster: I don't know anything for sure, but UPS is the type of organization that likes to run a "tight ship" (or whatever that expression is) -- they go so far as to send people to time their loaders/unloaders during coffee and bathroom breaks. Since most corporations drug test, I would be surprised if UPS didn't. If you're a casual pot smoker (most common reason people worry about these things), stop by your local headshop or GNC. They sell drinks and shampoos (for hair tests) which will help you beat those tests.

When I worked at UPS as a loader 10 years ago they didn't require a drug test. Maybe time has changed I don't know. If you get hire in October, I am assuming you are seasonal help and you really have to prove yourself to UPS to get rehire after the holidays. If you do get hire I have a piece of advise, the first week at work is going to be a bitch. Perpare yourself and hang in there.

Hey, I have an idea. STOP TAKING DRUGS* and you won't have the problem.

*until you get hired

I have no problems with people who smoke; I've done it a few times and I know people who smoke constantly that still live meaningful, successful lives. However, the people who I have no respect for are the ones that get fired because they're always stoned, the ones that light up at work, or those who are in danger of losing something big by continuing to smoke. For example, one lady I knew had a 3 year old child that was in her parent's custody b/c she was busted on a MJ possession charge. She was ordered to stay clean for 2 years so she could get her son back. Did she stay clean? Noooooo! She lit up like a ganja chimney every day and cheated on her drug tests instead. What a f***ing loser.

UPS has a ZERO tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol.

I know several UPS employees and they are clean as a whistle.

But you might be safe if you just want a temporary position.

UPS will not test unless you are suspect. Heck, even if you are suspect they seem not to care as long as you work between 10pm and 6am... they even called it the crack addict shift when I went over there. You should see some of the scumbags that work that shift.

You must not work in the computer industry. Either that or you don't know that many people.

Why are you worried about them drug testing? If you dont' do drugs you'll be fine. If you do some type of controlled substance that is prescribed to you, you'll be fine. Be sure to let the tester know that you're taking something.

On the other hand, if you're doing drugs and you're applying for a job, I'd suggest you abstain from drugs and sober up and then try applying -- also stay off the drug (only if you are doing something).

Hmmm he said more than $10 per hour.

Alot of times in the IT industry if you are that good, they don't care what you do as long as the other 1000+ workers stay productive 🙂

It's a permanent postion paying $8.50/hour and $9/hour after 90 days. Working 10:30PM-2:30AM any day Sunday-Thursday. This is perfect for me.

I'm not sure about the drug testing, but I know someone who worked in this position on a part-time basis a few years back. He said it was very warm in the work area, so they needed to drink lots of water. However, bathroom breaks were very limited (if not non-existant). 🙁
