Does upgrading to X2 need a windows resintall?

When you build a P4 system, if you don't have HT enabled before OS install and enable it after, it doesn't work. You have to have both logical cores running when you install. I would guess it would be the same for two physical cores. Just a guess though.

People will tell you otherwise no reinstall is needed.

But a rule of thumb for me and making sure everything is performing as it should, I always do a complete reformat and reinstall for any major hardware upgrade, ala, CPU/Mobo/GPU.
