Does tracking the delivery of a package amaze you as much as me?

I know it's been around a while, but I'm still amazed by it...

I figured pliablemoose didn't post what it was because it's fairly obvious.
It's a Clapper. Should be even more entertaining than tracking.

That looks like FedEx tracking, so I'm guessing it's something from Newegg.

Tracking by itself doesn't amaze me, real-time updated info would amaze me a little.

Haha, somehow I find POS (Point of Sale) devices to be quite cool. Inventory management is a neat field.

Since when did Newegg move to North Dakota?

It is either cigarettes or porn from a reservation. He probably ordered "Dances with Beavers".

Neat like what, accounting?

How is the unit in the truck linked to the tracking system? I'm also fascinated by how the computers in police cars are linked up.

Depends. Some places, it's actually wifi. Some places, it's AMPS-based cell phone modems. Some places, it's primitive wireless networking. Some places, they aren't. Some places they work off data pulled from tones on scanner frequencies.

within the next 5 years, they will put a beacon on every delivery truck/flight so you can real-time track where you package is at all times... even while stopped on the side of the road while the driver takes a leak.

I am more impressed with USPS package tracking.

"your box is somewhere in the system and will be delivered between January 1st and December 31st.

I know, it kills me. It's really more delivery confirmation than tracking...

No, I mean neat like when you buy something, it gets scanned at the register, and that data are transmitted to the supermarket warehouse in some other city, telling the inventory manager that they'll need to order two additional cans of mushroom soup and deliver them to your local store.

I just think it's neat how little human interaction there needs to be with inventory management.
