Does tipping the delivery guy really help get your food faster?

Before I begin, let me just say that as a standard practice I tip a fair amount ($3 on a $15-18 pizza, $2 on $11 wings, etc) for all delivery services I receive. I'm just wondering if consistent tipping really makes a difference in the quality of service received.

For all the ATOT delivery people out there, do you make a special effort to deliver food to people who tip well? On the other hand, do you tend to take longer with people who don't tip?
 
Nope! Unless you are a regular customer and they know you and your address.

I did the pizza thing for about 6 years and there were a few people and addresses we know and they certainly got a little better service, but nothing fancy. Especially from a national chain where everything is done by the order in which they come in.

Perhaps a local place might treat you different.
 
Only if you are a regular customer will this help. Otherwise, tip anyway as those guys make next to nothing a lot of the time. Everybody needs a break...

If these people were looking to become millionaires in 5 years, they entered the WRONG profession.

Most takeout places charge a "delivery" fee now, and as such, i will NOT tip the delivery driver.

I don't care if it's because the place has to pay for insurance or gas for the driver, or anything else. That's not my problem.

Yep they get paid minimum wage. If they wanted to make more, they can get a better job.
 
I get delivery on a regular basis from a local burger/chicken fingers joint around here. They know me, I give around 20% tip, and I typically get my food in 25 minutes or so. Used to be 45. On the other hand I'm also pretty regular at Dominos and haven't seen any such decrease. Correspondingly I give them around a 15% tip. *shrug*

Some people here do cus they think that they're doing so much work when they do take-out.
 
We usually order pizza and a salad on Saturday's, the service is very fast
the food, nice and hot and the driver is very pleasant. Once,the owner
delivered my food. I always tip well.
 
If I get delivery and the change is less than 5 bucks I just tell them to keep the change, most of the time its 2-3 bucks.

It gets you snickers when the drivers get together and make fun of the pretentious big tippers that think they'll get something special when, in reality, it buys you nothing. If the store manager discovers that drivers are playing favorites by rearranging the delivery schedule, they're fired.

This is not to say that an occasional tip wasn't appreciated during bad weather but it was never expected.

I delivered years ago near a huge university. It was quite an experience. A few dorm girls tried to tip with non-negotiable currency.
 
No. It's a sign of showing thanks for showing up in a timely manner or whatever the case may be. Delivery guys don't make that much anyways, if they show up ontime with the food still hot, I think they deserve a decent tip.
