Does tight memory really affect Venice?

Do Venices really thrive on TIGHT TIMINGS(EXPENSIVE RAM) or would some CORSAIR VS do just as well for ocing?
planning on getting the epox 9npa-ultra mobo

If i get a 3200+ im plannin on some ocz plat. rev 2 or xblk
do these options sound good, ill prob oc either way
if i get a 3500 ill should just get corsair vs

Do the 3200+, its multiplyer (10) makes it easier to OC. The VS could hold you back, but Im not sure by how much. Get memory thats made for low timings, A64 really like the OC abilities on them.

I'd get crucial value ram if possible, since I really hate the corsair stuff. If you can find some ram that runs at somewhat tight timings (like 2-3-2) then that'd be better. I would not spend TOO much on ram, but a 20-30 dollar price difference for better ram is probably worth it. The ram will only limit you if you try to run it at the default divider.

I tested awhile ago with a few different 3d games. 2-2-2 1t versus 2.5-3-3 2t was typically 1-2fps difference at the settings I played at (quite a bit lower than where I play now, which means that the impact was amplified). Frames varied from game to game but 1-2fps broke down to 0.5-4% depending on the game.

memory controller is intergrated on CPU.. thus, blowing any money for better timings is NOT worth it.

it holds me back a bit. but only in timings, not any noticable difference in FPS or benchmarking

for the Venice, save money and get value RAM and use the saved money to boost your vid card or another component.

there's a stickied thread somewhere on AT which shows the difference between high performance RAM and value RAM on the A64. it is nearly negligible. high quality RAM gives very poor bang for the buck.

even if you OC and have valueRAM which won't go too high, you can always use a RAM divider with minimal performance hit.

Value RAM works well for overclocking. Of course, it depends upon your definition of 'overclocking'. If you are overclocking for the purpose of high benchmarks, then value RAM will hold you back from maximizing memory bandwidth tests, or fps.

If you overclock to get a 44% increase in CPU performance at minimal cost, heat and noise, while running 24x7 completely stable in all home-use scenarios, then value RAM is EXCELLENT.

Basically, incremental increases in CPU performance (overclock) leads to significantly greater system performance than will tighter timings or increased bandwidth alone. Memory should not 'hold back' your CPU overclock.

thx alot for the advice, i actually found 1gig of corsair vs for 50$
and will prob get that. maybe ill upgrade to better memory in a year or 2 if this memory isnt what i want, then it will be cheaper.

SO, if i get the epox do u guys really think i should get a 3000+ and spend more on my vid card? prob x800xl or 6800

yes, any venice will not to any noticeble degree bottleneck a 6800gt/x800xl

I thought the deal was there was barely any difference except between 1T and 2T command rate - just be sure to get memory that'll do 1T?

Depends. Many people aregue that 512 KB of extra cache the sandiego is worth it... 2-2-2-5 timings give around the same performance increase as the extra 512 Kb of cache. Other people say that the 512 Kb of cache isn't worth it. To those people, the 2-2-2-5 timings will not be worth it because it gives similar performance to the extra 512 kb of cache.
