So I want your guy's opinions on whether or not you think this is a fair price for a 50/5 internet connection. No bundle deals it's just straight internet with a 1tb cap. Competition in my area includes Comcast and the crap known as Frontier Communications. Does this seem like a fair price for the service provided?

I pay $100 for 25/5 so yeah you are getting hosed, just a bit less than me. I don't have a cap though.

Seems okay.

I pay $40/mo with Optimum for 100/35 service.

When I was in NYC and had a greater choice of providers, I was paying ~$50 for 50/25 service with RCN (or maybe it was 100/25, I forget).

IIRC, we pay about $70 for 110/10 (?) Not terrible...when it works, but Wave Broadband has been the most unreliable ISP we've ever had. Unfortunately, they're our ONLY broadband option here other than a couple of satellite internet providers...and we're surrounded by TALL fir trees, so satellite is sketchy at best. (Dish had to use 2 dishes to get us service, DirecTV took one look and said, "Sorry." )

I have a WISP and i pay around $80 a month for 20/1 , it's been pretty reliable since the upgraded the speeds, no complaints from me as this is miles better than the supposed 5/1 (reality was .7/1) i used to have from the company.

I pay $85 per month for (rated) 60/6 that is actually closer to 75/12 on most days. The service is good, but I would gladly pay less for a moderately slower connection. Sadly, Comcast is the only real option in my area so it's what I use.

CenturyLink offered to give me an "AMAZING" deal on a 3/1 connection for only $55 per month.

The only other choice is a 10/10 wireless ISP that charges $130 per month (not including equipment fees) and has a monthly bandwidth cap of 25GB...

Man, reading these makes me weep for the state of internet around the US.

I pay 49.95 (no extra taxes or bs) for 1Gb/1Gb on NextLight, my local municipal fiber service. No usage caps.

More places need to do it.

I pay $60 for 200/25 (usually end up getting ~240/28), no caps (typically transfer 1TB down, 2TB up)
However, this is a grandfathered TWC plan (now Spectrum).

Many people don't have much choice in providers or are given different levels of pricing based on many factors (how much competition, what companies, where you live, etc.). You're better off asking people local to your area.

But we already have so much competition for internet, that's why the FCC killer Net Neutrality.

/s
Net neutrality is a completely different, huge major big problem.

The "duopoly" situation we see ourselves in now is a consequence of disastrous 2002 reclassification where Internet was listed as "information service" rather than "telecommunications service"
We went from having dozens of DSL providers to choose from to having only a small list of providers. I think the 2002 disaster was even worse than the 2017 one. 2017 lets ISPs get away with murder, but, 2002 is the reason why there is no real competition any more.
