Have you tried to quite smoking weed? Alot of people say that weed is a steeping stone to harder drugs. And I have seen people who were pot smokers who couldn't funciton anymore unless they were on it. Why not do somehting legal like the patch, or gum, or hell, make a bet with a firend also trying to quite that who ever smokes a cig next, has to but the other a new computer or car stero or somehting expensive.
Actually weed isn't physically addictive (nicotine is). The "people you've seen who couldn't function any more unless they were on it" are just very weak-willed if they can't stop smoking it whereas you will actually go through physical withdrawl when trying to kick nicotine. Just for the record.
Exactly. The two legal drugs, alcohol and tobacco, are many many times more addictive than their illegal couterparts.

The other thing is that since nicotine and weed are entirely different drugs, weed won't help you with the physical addiction of nicotine beyond maybe mellowing you out a little. It doesn't do anything directly like methadone for a heroin addict. You could just as easily replace "pot" with "jogging" if you wanted to. Not that I have a problem with weed, but supplanting one habit with another seems kinda counterproductive IMO. I can also see how you might end up smoking a lot more pot since you're wound up while trying to kick the cigs. Occasional smoking is fine, but (as with alcohol) once you start devoting much of your waking hours to it or using it to "feel better", you are headed for problems.

If it did work which is doubtful, it would be pretty hard to accomplish because it is expensive, not advisable to smoke in public, and probably not acceptable by most employers.

have you taken these into consideration?

Actually, it does mean something. Really, really, really liking hamburgers and the feeling of satiety after eating one is not physical addiction. You will not go through withdrawl involving shakes, delerium, etc if someone takes your Big Mac away from you. Your body is not dependent upon the burger whereas alcohol and nicotine will eventually create a physical dependence. A psychological dependence on being stoned is not the same thing; you may miss it if deprived of it, but you won't have physical withdrawl symptoms AFAIK.

- It is very easy to not smoke weed.
- That is a stupid idea.
- Get a spell checker.
- You have weak friends.
- The patch/gum does not work for everyone.

This method has worked for many of my friends. I would try it.

Yes, exactly. I do not know anyone who had withdrawl from no longer smoking weed.

Really? Got any supporting data for that assertation?

Any search will turn it up, you just have to make sure you don't go to the "marijuana will make you kill your children" kind of anti-cannibus sites. Check psychiatry and psychology sites that have been peer reviewed and published.

That article and the other non "reefer madness" sites state that the addiction is mostly psychological. I'm talking about physical addiction along the lines of DTs you'll see in alcoholics.

the best way to change ANYTHING... smoking, drinking, diet, exercise... is to have many different motivational things. make a pact with yourself or someone else. reward yourself for going X days and not smoking. accept the fact that you are going to relapse, but dont let yourself quit making the change. another thing people do is write a check out to a foundation you are AGAINST. some place you dont want your money going to. if you dont quit smoking in X time, that check goes in the mail. just a few suggestions of the top of my head... i have a health psychology class.. the teacher loved to lecture about this.

The key to quitting smoking is decreasing the intake of nicotine. The best way to do this is to smoke less, a LOT less, a hundred percent less...

word.

The "stepping stone" is just an excuse for people who're bored enough to try anything anyway. They just want to have some kind of segue between drinking a beer at home and hitting the crack pipe with a couple of indigents in the middle of brooklyn at 3am.

You guys kill me. You think legalization makes things "better" for you? Alchohol is far more dangerous than weed.

i think you can do it...i mean once you get arrested nicotine withdrawal will be the least of your problems when your bubbas biatch...
