DOES THIS MAKE SENSE TO ANYONE???? *college housing policy*

Ok so my school SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am going to DC next fall and planned on moving back into my on-campus apartment with my current roommates next spring. This was the plan until I was informed that INCOMING FRESHMEN have precedence over SENIORS!!! I couldn't believe this! Turns out they won't be holding my place for me, and my roommates may end up with a freshman or a transfer next fall. Better yet, I might get stuck in the FRESHMAN DORMS my Senior year!!!

I have paid my dues to this college ($20,000 a year) and have been an A student. The least they could do is hold my place for me, knowing that I'll be coming back in the spring to finish!!!

My day has officially been ruined.

they will lose all that money from fall to spring if you aren't there. or were you planning on paying for it?

Wow, at Drexel U in Philly, the order of precedence is Senior, Freshman, Soph, Pre-Jun, Junior. First priority is seniors graduating and the second most important is to have room for new students.

That situation sucks, hope it works out.

sorry?

on a serious note tho, are appartments not an option for you?

Who the hell is living on campus their senior year anyway?

I moved off campus halfway through my freshman year. It was much cheaper.

As much as it sucks, I can see the logic behind it.

Your yearly cost includes housing, & you will be housed while in DC. (You're not paying extra to go to DC, correct?)

By reserving your place in the dorm they would essentially be holding two housing spots open for one fee. Now if they were charging you for housing while in DC (in addition to your normal fees), then I'd say it was BS.

No matter what the logic, though, that really does suck.

I will be paying as though I were going to Geneva that semester, and Geneva will in turn pay for the internship (Geneva ends up making about $500 from the deal).

I wouldn't live on campus if I could. It's another one of their FREAKING RETARDED housing policies: no one can live off campus. Period. Unless they commute from their parents' house or are missionary kids (don't ask).

So the best you can do at this school is live in an on-campus apartment (which is pretty nice, actually, and what we're doing now).

paying as you are going to Geneva for only tution or tution and housing (room and board)? Viper's logic was what i was getting at when i asked if you were paying for housing while you were away.

UC Davis "guarentees" housing for freshman when, in reality, they can't back their guarentee. I transferred. Harder to make friends not living in a dorm. 🙁

Tuition and housing as though I was going to Geneva. But Geneva pays the internship about $9,000 and makes about $500 off the deal. Something like that, I forget. But I pay the whole thing as though I was going to Geneva.

I'm sure you would know housing policies if you actually read the contract they had you sign.

It's too bad that it won't work out for you... but don't expect the world to make exceptions for you just because of how wonderful you are.
I would suggest looking for an apt near campus if transportation is an issue. Around here, you can always find flyers about ppl looking for a room mate.

That bites....I had heard of Freshman being required to live on Campus but never ALL students. Sounds more like a compound than a campus.

I'm your friend! You'll always have Anandtech. 🙂

edit:
what?!
how cant youl live off campus?

what kind of backwards school is this?
*no offence*
*kat. <-- thinks 3d and 4th year students should live off campus.

they do something similar at my school.

well there's about 800 spots right by campus and they only let in 125 maximum who are NOT freshman. so if you want to come back on campus you gotta go wait in line for your spot literally 5 hours ahead of time

The college I went to was a private school run by a church, and you lived on campus period, but they had enough housing. There was never a shortage. And to top it all off EVERYONE had a midnight curfew, no matter what. And they did checks a few times a week to make sure you were in your dorm room or apartment by midnight.

Church run schools are not schools at all, they are worse than the military about enforcing stuff.
