Does this look kind of fishy?

The price of this 1gb Crucial RAM was $121.38 yesterday.. but now today, it suddenly dropped to $113. Does this seem kind of suspicious?

I thought Crucial was a really good brand? Why is the price so low? It's the second cheapest 1gb RAM for PC2700.... am i getting scammed?

Anyways, should I place an order?

I just always think that the more expensive the ram is, the better speed and quality it is... Usually the cheapest ram is the worst quality and generic brands... Thats why i was surprised that Crucial, an excellent brand would be so cheap...

So i shouldn't be worried and just buy it?

do you have a laptop? if so it is fine, if you have a desktop, not fine, because ram for laptops is different from ram for desktops, i always look for the lowest price on crucial ram, never been disappointed yet......

Yes, Corsair makes good ram. I would say Corsair leans more towards the enthusiast market (except it's ValueRAM), so it's generally more expensive but has better timings.

Both Corsair and Crucial make great RAM no matter which type you get (ValueRAM to high performance XMS).

And no, the link to the RAM you posted doesn't look fishy. Prices fluctuate and Newegg may just be lowering the price to generate more sales. It doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the RAM.

For P4 systems: maybe to no depending on how much you plan to oc.\amd systems: definitely not. improving from CL 3 to cl2.5 wil improve performance 0-1% max except maybe in winzip or winrar.

For most users Crucial RAM or Corsair Value RAM is sufficient. The end user will not appreciate the benefits of going to high performance memory. If you are adding RAM to a prebuilt system like a laptop then there would be no reason really to go for anything other than the most basic product.

The people who benefit from high performance RAM are those who are prepared to spend extra money to get every ounce of performance from their system. A casual computer user need not include themselves in this category.

However if you are building a PC on Aesthetics then you get some pretty funky heatsinkd attched to the more expensive memory. I personally quite like the OCZ VX Gold which is also very heavy.

If you dislike NewEggs price reduction policy, go directly to Crucials website, use their Memory Selector Program to get the prefect fit for your PC and buy what you want.

Crucial are imo the best brand for non-overclocking ram. Their stability at stock speeds is probably matched only by their outstanding custormer service.
