Pro, hardly. It's something that anyone with any sort of Illustrator skills at all could come up with. I have about 3 years of graphic design under my belt, and I know there are others on this board who do graphic design for a living as well and they could tell you the same.
As far as execution, well, whatever. I mean it's there. But design wise, very basic anyone could do it type of thing. I would not try to pass that off as my company logo by any means, looks way too amateurish. If he is actually trying to use that for a logo for a real company, please tell him to get someone who knows what they are doing to do it. They get paid money for a reason, if anyone could do it then we wouldn't have a job.

Seriously, it's about as bad as a "logo" can be. Ask your friend if there is a *reason* for the yin/yang. There should be a thought process behind these things. Otherwise, it's just bad bad bad.

I shudder anytime I see a Ying Yang used stupidly so - which is indeed what is going on this case. The G/Z on the Ying Yang yet the 'G' and 'D' as the abbreviations of the name is confusing as well. It really is not professional at all - high school project at best.
As somebody else said, your friend should consult somebody that specializes in this thing. Coming up with a good logo really is a difficult thing to do and it very well can payoff to seek professional advice.
