Does this gigabit switch exist?

Hi folks, this is my first ever post so go easy..

I'm looking into the feasibility of a network solution for which I'd need a 12 to 24 port managed gigabit switch which can take a serial (RS-232) command to simply switch on/off the individual ports? Or is it pause/activate? Whatever the terminology, we'd need it to 'sleep and wakeup' very fast (I'm talking miliseconds).

So as an example, we'll have all the ports/gates open and as soon as we issue a command, port 16 stops 'sending/receving' a signal and just becomes dead. Individual control of each port is a must via Serial so a GUI or other management tools aren't needed.

Oh, and it must support IGMP and '8K Jumbo frame' - haven't a clue what that is but there you go. This will be either a very obvious feature of most managed switches or something very unique - either way: go easy on me!!

Thanks Drebo for your prompt reply. I was hoping for anything but Cisco due to costs - I'd say the budget is around $500USD. Is that realistic with the kind of functionality we need?

Well that depends. You can easily find use Cisco & HP switches that meet your needs used, new might be a little bit difficult.

A Cisco Catalyst 2970 should give you what you need for much less than $500 used.

Even Cisco wont wakeup that quick. Even with portfast on it still takes the switch a little while to learn the mac and activate the port.

Yeah, I don't think you'll find anything that can do it in "miliseconds".
