Does this exist?

I work as a Network Engineer and I currently use an old Dell 8100 for work. I'm really looking to get something with a 12 to 14 inch widescreen, builtin wireless and bluetooth, dvd burner, nvidia video card (for linux support). My only problem is that I cannot find one that has a serial port, I realize that I can get a USB to serial port adapter, but really prefer to have the serial port built into the laptop. Does anyone know if there is a laptop that exists with these kind of options? I would appreciate any help or advice.

Thanks!

That's what I was afraid of, just figured I'd ask in case there was some small company that I'd never heard or something.
Thanks though.

My old T-30 had a serial port built in; as far as I know that's the last of the T series to have one. I have a pcmcia serial adapter I use in my T-42 these days. Luckly I don't need a serial port as often as I used to.

not many new laptops come with serial ports. you could try one with a USB-> serial adapter.

Here's some options.

The IBM/Lenovo X32, X41, and even the new X60 have what's called an ultra base. It's a portable media slice that is used as a port rep when at your desk, but can be taken joined with the THinkPad for travel, etc. The serial port on it is NATIVE when attached -direct passthrough.

Also... THe new T60 ThinkPad is supposed to support an optical bay insert that displaces the CD/DVD in favor of a printer and serial port - though I don't know if those are treated as native. Not sure they are selling that yet as the T60 was just introduced.

So... You do have options without dragging around serial/USB dongles.

Dell D510, D610, D810, M70, M20 all have serial ports. No funky base required.

Not widescreen but the D610/810/M70/M20 are all pretty nice laptops (have not seen a D510). Big step up from the 8100 (C810 based?) you are used to....

I appreciate the suggestions, I actually use to have a D810, it was a great laptop but I'd really love to get something smaller. The M20 is probably the closest I'm going to get, but it's so expensive!!

The Inspiron 600m has serial and parallel, and is still sold at Dell Home. Might be able to pick up a used one cheap as well.

This is a pretty good option. It's affordable and very decent. My son has one and it has given him no problems.
