Does the XFX 5900nu have 128bit or 256bit memory?

Its the $200 one on newegg and I was about to buy it till somebody on the Hardforum pointed out this

One the right top 256bit memory and on the left 128bit memory. On the bottom right 256bit memory and on the left 128bit memory. Newegg says 256bit memory.

What the hell is going on?

the xfx 5900 i bought from newegg.com has 2.2 hynex memory. its gpu is runnings @ 450 and memory is @ 900. it is a very stable card, shows no artifacts what-so-ever and runs cool with a cheap pci slot blower under agp.

Thats strange but if i was you i would stay away from that card it looks 2 me it comes with a 128bit mem.. the GPU is 256bit by default and that will never change but if the card is built on a 128bit board then it will never do 256bit memory and never give you the 27.5GB of bandwidth dont get it if your unsure. i wouldn?t it would be like getting a Geforce FX 5800 but slower.

To clarify: All FX5900 non ultra's (plain FX5900) have a 256-bit memory bus, HOWEVER, there are crappier FX5900SE cards that sometimes come with a 128-bit bus.

That card, if it is a 128-bit card (crappy one) should say "SE" or "LE" in the name somewhere, in which case avoid it. In the first link, it does mysteriously say 256-bit and 128-bit. In this case, they might be trying to trick you by not putting that it is an SE/LE card, even though with a 128-bit bus, it is...

What does the store link say? If it mentions 128-bit, I'd be leery and check somewhere else. It's better to pay even $20 more if you're sure it comes with a 256-bit bus.

man you are only increasing my worries.....ive ordered this card now and i want to get rid of my bfg 5900 nu that is full of artifacts and crappy performance....pls dont tell me i made the wrong choice...

Well I just went through the whole first page of 5900nu on pricewatch. If they say anything about the memory they all say 256bit on everything and a lot of the cards were the XFX ones. Even on the other makes that do say SE or LE they say 256bit memory but have the slower 2.8ns memory. The XFX have the 2.2ns memory.

I received my XFX 5900 today by FedEx... thank you buy.com for not using UPS... it would have taken until next week that way.

It has Hynix 2.2ns chips on it (HY5DU283222/AF-22 327A, rated at 454MHz DDR/909MHz effective). The GPU is printed GEFORCE FX 5900.

Also, the box does state 256-bit memory interface and there are 8 memory chips on the card, so all looks good.

I think XFX is under rated. My Geforce 4 4200 I bought from them awhile ago overclocked a great deal.

Were not bagging out the company just stating that one of there Geforce FX5900 cards is a 128Bit memory bus card and it looks 2 me that have a standard Geforce FX5900nu GPU and just built it on a board that has a 128bit memory configuration. therefore making is a slower can and giving it half the bandwidth of a Geforce FX5900 nu built on a 256Bit board /.. some manufacturers are being naughty ... !!!!

I just got the XFX 5900 today. It does indeed have 256bit memory. Coolbits also autodetected it at 500 core/903 memory.

All of the SE boards I've seen have a 256bit mem interface, they just use 2.8ns RAM instead of 2.2. Which board is using a 128bit mem interface?

I received my XFX FX5900nu from Newegg. I have had nothing but problems with it. I get artifacts at POST immediately after installing the adapter. I have read on the XFX forums that the V2.2 adapters have a 700MHz memory timing instead of 800MHz. I am not too proud of this purchase at the moment. I have RMA'd the adapter back to Newegg telling them to get it sorted out or a complete refund. I should have just stuck with my gut and go with a better brand.

You are confusing this with the radeon 9800/9600 line of cards.

Radeon 9800 - 8 pipes, 256-bit memory interface
Radeon 9800SE - 4 pipes, 256-bit memory interface
Radeon 9600 - 4 pipes, 128-bit memory interface

There are 9800 SE's that have 128bit memory interfaces. That is where a lot of people are getting hot under the collar.

I did not know this Ati should really focus on easier naming conventions for their cards and enforce them.

So basicly a 9800SE -128 is a 9600
