Does the XBOX HDTV pack really make xbox games look that much better?

Of course, only if you have an HDTV-capable set, I understand that part. Just is it worth buying? Are there many games gonna be out in 480p? Halo 2 one of them? I can't find any place to buy them though??

yeah,
most games run at 480p but it's definitely a step up. You can actually read the license plates on gotham racing 2 🙂
I just like it because it lets me use optical out from the box to my receiver, so xbox media center sounds crisp and clean. Plus 5.1 dolby digital is fun too, especially in the games

On the side note, are there any games that do 1020p (or whatever the high res is)?

Yeah, i have the HDTV pack for my xbox and TV, even if the games themselves aren't full HD (1080i, or 720p), you get the benefit of a component hook up. I swapped the OEM component cables for some monster 3's. But there are ton's of xbox games that take advantage of HD.

i've got the whole monster set up btw (with optical out and all). Def. worth the money (i paid like $30 for in in FS/FT)

the HD component pack should be about $20 (much better deal than Monster's overpriced stuff). Worth it if your HDTV displays 720p, as there are quite a few games now that are 720p. There are also a few 1080i games--MX Unleashed and Dragon's Lair 3D are two that I have, and they look REALLY good in HD.

EDIT: If you can find the monster cables for around what Halik paid, it's a good deal, but I would NOT pay full price for them.

Is it worth getting the X2VGA box?

if this thing works as good as the dreamcast one, I would have to say Hell Yes.

The Dreamcast ones are like $20 now... but the XBOX is still $50+ 🙁

And yes, the Dreamcast one was freakin sweet!

I've played Rallisport Challenge 2 on both an HDTV with no HD pack, and on an HDTV with the pack. It looks MUCH, MUCH better.

I'm a dumbass. I don't know why I thought you were talking tv on that one...

What has higher quality, VGA or the hdtv pack for tv via component? I have a projector that can do them all.

The Dreamcast, when hooked to a VGA box, would output in VGA mode which made it look much better.

I believe all the VGA boxes for PS2 and XBOX just convert the signal into VGA by line doubling, etc. So, you don't get an increase in picture, just the ability to hook it to a monitor.

So I should go the cheap route and just buy the $20 hdtv pack for tv and hookup via component? Sounds like it is worth it for only $20 after hearing what you guys say...

For $20, hell yes.

If you've got an HD-capable TV, I can't imagine why you WOULDN'T but one.

A certain yet-to-be-released game looks gorgeous in 480p on my 65" set. 😀

Hell yes, it's worth every penny. Have you seen Soul Calibur II in 720P, it simply amazing. Also if you have a surround sound setup it'll output Dolby Digital 5.1 via Optical. Here is a link to list of games that support High resolution Link..
