Does the X-ray machine at the airport mess up laptops?

Im 99% sure its a no... They even have special crates for you to send it through....
 
It may not, but laptop theft at an xray machine is a danger. If you're traveling alone, make sure you keep your eye on it at all times. If you're travling with someone else, make sure you cover each other if the other one of you gets stopped. I've heard stories where the security people themselves are in on it, they'll stop you and 'wand' you, while one of them wisks your laptop away without you seeing. I have not experienced that first hand though, so I cannot verify it.
 
The x-rays themselves do not cause any damage (physical or data) to the laptop. However, like MrBond said, laptop theft is a real possibilty.
