I don't mind too much. I do prefer gauge since it seems to be more common, though.

There really are no "alternate spellings," just people who can't spell properly.

No, I'm not talking about the difference between the "British spelling and the US spelling...they are completely different languages with lots of cognates...:D

I'm a Kiwi so I'm completely used to all British spelling. I also use the internet a lot so I'm comfortable with American spelling, too. I'm not too fussed but I almost exclusively use British spelling myself. The only one that really bothers me is the American misspelling of 'aluminium', because you also mispronounce it (badly).
