title speaks for itself. looking to build a dual core system with this processor in the coming weeks when the prices go down. i would go retail boxed if the heatpipe is included, otherwise i don't any reason to pay more for the retail boxed cpu if i'm better off buying OEM and getting a better heatsink for about the same cost.

I don't think it does, thought it was only 4200 and upwards in the X2 line that came with it, but I'm not totally sure of that. Hopefully somebody can come and correct me if I'm wrong.

If you still don't get an answer quickly, start a new thread and make your topic title 'Conroe' and your topic summary 'I have one'.

That way at least people will look at it.

:D

I have opened a new 3800+ retail box two months back and the answer is no.

EDIT: Didn't read "AM2". Oops!

the stock opteron cooler is less than $20 if you look around. If you use a good fan, it can perform close to xp-90 and be silent.

AFAIK, all AM2 X2 have the heatpipe cooler, on S939, the X2 3800+ was the only dualcore that didn't have it.

You could also contact you fav vendor and see if they can answer the question. If they have a tech dept they'd know. I'm curious if the new AM2 3800 X2 has the better hsf myself.
