The newer ones do (v7 and above?). The older ones have trouble reading DVD+R discs.

They read both. I had a v3 ps2 and it read both perfectly. I think the ps2 is really pretty good about reading backups.

Older versions can be fickle about the media, but in general, the PS2 is pretty good about back-ups.

i've heard that dvd+r are more compatible in general. Is there any specific brand of company that also is more compatable? (specifically with the ps2). Also, i thought that to play backups of games you needed a mod chip?

I know it works with DVD-R, but cheap media often doesn't. Fortunately, I never buy cheap media. Never tried +R for the PS2.

I've tried -R and -RW in my year-old PS2 and my girlfriend's 2.5-years-old PS2 and both of them read the discs perfectly :)

Oh, if you're wondering, I used Ritek's (yellow) for the -R and Packard Bell nasty cheap 1x-rated horrible crappy -RW discs (can you tell that I don't like them? :) ).

My ps2 is going on to be about 2 years old as well, i'm glad to know that -R and -RW discs will work :D:beer:

Anyone know anything, or where i can get more information on backing up games? Thanks.

Everything's supposed to work in the new Playstation 2 "+" model. And +R is less compatible than -R in every test I've ever seen, even though the +R claim otherwise.
