Does the material of the phone really matter if you use a case?

So this year it looks like most manufacturers are catching up to Iphone ( and htc one) craftsmanship. which is a great thing of course. However does it really matter If you are going to put a case on it anyway? Im going to assume the general public uses a case.

I have a pretty minimal case on my sony Z2 ( a pretty nice phone IMO) , while I've seen these otterboxes and otterbox wanna be's complete encase the phone beyond recognition and feel.

I think the metal construction is a nice step forward but in the end we defeat the purpose by placing cases on them.I could be wrong about how many people use a case however. Thoughts?

I use a phone case, as soon as my I get my phone, a screen protector and case go on it. How many times a day do you handle your phone, it's only a matter of time before it's dropped. I don't chance a $300+ phone

I usually put cases on my phones, but one of the main reasons I got the galaxy note 4 was because of its design.

I really like how they incorporated the metal band around the phone. It is very aesthetically pleasing and even though I do use a case, there are times where I want to take the phone off the case and hold it naked. Just to admire its beauty and feel the quality.

I feel like after two years, I am more confident and will just run the phone without a case.

I don't use a case, so phone materials matter somewhat to me. I don't go for best looking or feeling phone, I go for the best value. So to me, I've rarely considered the iPhone or the Galaxy lines as they don't do well on the value component.

I've never used a case on any of my phones. Never understood the point; just makes the phone clunkier and uglier. I love the feel of my OnePlus in my hand so a case would just make me sad.

I have a Note4. I don't care that it's plastic. I wouldn't bother with a case but it feels more secure in my hand with one (Spigen Neo Hybrid).

I use a case because I work in rugged environments. Even if I didn't, I like the improved grip of a case. I want a bulky ugly phone that's built like my old Nextel. I launched that thing a few times, and it came out with mere scratches.
