I don't care if the plot was Scarlett J eating spaghetti and meatballs for 2 and a half hours. Would watch.

she doesn't look as good as you'd imagine

Watched this last night (only because the GF messed up on the time for Hercules...) It wasn't as bad as I was expecting. And it started off in the realm of possibility. She doesn't "unlock" her brain function so much as actually get access to it. She is able to control her metabolism, nerves, etc. The stuff that is automatic. It does, however, enter the realm of stupid eventually.

ScarJo looks great in it. And, she actually plays a pretty convincing ditzy blonde at the beginning, before she goes all "being afraid of violence was so 10 minutes ago. Here, I'll just shoot random people because reasons!"

Limitless was pretty good.

This is a bit different as limitless was purely cerebral powers. In Lucy looks like there is a bit of sci fi where she gets superpowers where she can manipulate objects, and it's a bit of an action flick it seems.

interesting in that both Lucy and Limitless, the drug is small and blue.

will this start a new wave of brain drug movies that will default to blue crystals as the brain drug?

And ya, I'll just see it for ScarJo myself.

I'd do that over just because there are robots in it type of movie premise thing, :)

It's a movie, you know fiction. But if you used at least 10% of your brain you would have figured that out.

You (and a couple other 40 yr old virgins in this thread) are exactly the type of consumer the movie is marketed toward. Congrats.

If all you care about are looks, then go watch some porn or 183379820937 other free movies with hot chicks and a real plot. Stop rewarding the studios with your hard earned bucks for such stupidity. Transformers also falls into this category (o-m-g megan fox!).

You guys are all debating the realism in this movie, when you fail to realize it is just a huge acid trip that ScarJo is having. She isn't doing any of that, she is just on drugs.

Is that--or a similar scenario--the case in this movie?

I always thought the 10% referred to cognitive ability. As in the majority of people are so mind fogged they only ever use about 10% of their intelligence on a given day.

No. There is no real "twist". This is just a movie about a girl who takes some kind of synthetic drug that is supposed to replicate some hormone mothers give their babies at the start of conception. And, in high doses, Lucy is able to "access more of her cerebral capacity".

Yeah the 10% figure came from Einstein who wasn't a neuroscientist.
90 minutes used to be the standard time for movies, better to leave people wanting more.

Johansson should have caught any scientific errors or improbabilities in the script and brought it up to the writers and other staff. She seems intelligent and educated so she must have learned about science in school. Well I haven't actually researched to find out if she did really learn anything about science. But she doesn't seem like a bimbo so maybe she knew it needed a complete rewrite but didn't say anything for the money.

I dunno. It's proven through medical imaging that this whole 10% of our brains business is nothing but bullshit.

It's a game breaker for me.

I never understood the 10% of the brain is only used nonsense. I hear that phrase uttered so much to. Make me rage inside every time I hear it. Then I remind myself that most people are really just muppets that are incapable of independent thought, much less rational understanding.

It's a fucking movie you retards, not a dissertation on neuroscience. Shut the fuck up you "pointy elbows, 2/10 would not bang" sissies.

I would watch it and not take it too seriously. After all, Scarlett Johansson is starring in it. I do hate that 10% of the brain nonsense. You can push neurons to work harder though, by use of medicines or illegal substances... But the chance is more likely those neurons will die of prematurely.

The 10% brain thing is CALLED A PLOT DEVICE. FYI: The Matrix is also not real .... SHOCKING.
Unfortunately, it's one of those stupid things that people believe - then they see it in a movie, which somehow legitimizes it further.

beginning wasn't bad.
drug unlocked her brain. gave her telekenisis and telepathy.

then started getting stupid with being able to control electricity/energy and ride the data stream to control your tv,monitor, phone.

then it got really stupid after she contacted morgan freeman's char.

who was that French cop anyway? missed that part

 The ironing...

Acting like the 2 are anywhere on the same plane is stupid.

Wow, its a plot device? Holy shit, who knew? If you're going to ground your science fiction in a modern reality, its dumb to have something so blatantly bullshit. For fuck's sake, just say that he's able to take the human mind beyond its current capabilities. Same exact impact on the plot, but doesn't insult your audience before they even watch the movie.

However, stuff like that is making it easier and easier to know what not to watch. Some of you act like its just a minor throwaway line when movies are chockfull of that shit now. They're not just having a little fun they're smacking your in the face with their dicks and then laughing all the way to the bank while shitheads throw money at them.

I agree, how unbelievable. I'm not going to see this movie. Instead, I'm going to Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Now that is believable!!

It's totally not comparable. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes gives a what if scenario. Lucy starts with a myth that it tries to pass off as a fact and plays what ifs off of that. It's ludicrous.
It's like making a movie stating gluten and GMO foods makes everyone only be able to use 10% of their brain and then make a hypothetical society without gluten and GMO and everyone becomes geniuses. The hypothetical what ifs is only interesting if the premise that the what if is based on is somewhat realistic.
