does the fan on the radeon gfx blow or suck?

specifically does the fan on the sapphire 9500pro blow heat away from the fan or suck air onto it [like a hsf]?
it just occured to me that i have a blower sat under my card with its intake fan directly opposite the gfx fan; if the card fan blows then good but if it sucks then there is conflict of airflow.

yes yes i could open it up, take the blower out and check but if someone already knows it will save some time and effort!

thanks in advance:)

i'm confused now! if what titanmiller said is the case then this is "sucking" right?

so what the score? you guys arent gonna let me side-step opening the darned thing up are you! so much for my revision/board exams if i do that...

It blows dammit. Look at the fan. note which way it is rotating, and look at the blades and how they are curved and tilted. That should tell you right away.
What happens to the air when the fan rotates and blades are curved that way? It can only go towards the HS/GPU.

Use your eh commona sensa. :p

A matter of semantics, some may interpret suck as sucking air in case and taking it to gpu. Others may interpret blowing as taking air from case towards gpu. Suck or blow aside the air goes towards the gpu from the fan.

for this very reason i was very specific in my initial post of defining "suck" as air-flow ONTO the gpu and "blow" as air-flow AWAY from the gpu.

i take it now that it "sucks" air onto the gpu from the case. if that is what happens then should i move my case-blower? the intake fan is directly below the gpu and so i guess both must be "competing" for the same airflow causing turbulence? or will this arrangement still be effective as it expels the warmed air from the gpu out of the case? the expelled air is warm....

it blows towards the GPU. when you are hot and sweaty, would you rather stand in front of a fan and have it blow air on you, or would you rather stand behind the fan and have it suck the hot air off of you?

I have a slot fan under my FX5900, I dont know if helps or hurts, I can overclock beoynd average so I assume it helps.

why should i chage it - i mean how much better can it get than a fan than rewrites the laws of physics?!:D

Your case fan should be able to b!tch slap the R9500Pro's fan silly.

Or said another way- due to the volume of air that your case fan is moving versus the theoretical maximum that the R9500Pro's fan can move at most their would be a very slight instance of turbulence which could very slightly impeded cooling performance. That said, the benefit of moving in external air with considerably lower temperatures directly on to the graphics card will easily make up more then the difference from lost effectiveness due to the slight level of turbulence. The only gotcha to this would be if you had an imbalanced case overall in terms of moving air in/out.

yeah matching my in/out is an issue - i have psu fan, a panflo case fan and the exhaust card blower under the gfx all venting out air, a further venting case fan at the top, and only a single side-case intake - at least this is blowing air directly onto the mobo but i guess i should shift the top venting fan to the front as an intake....an after-exams jobs it is then

i really wished my fan would take air from the core outwards. i have a slot fan close the video card and i think i have a little vaccuum with the two fans working against each other. :(

Huhh? you want the top fan exausting. hot air rises

How I read it was that he has a limited number of fans and he is going to pull his blowhole fan and instead use it for an intake fan on the front of the case as he has negative pressure in his case right now due to an imbalance of airflow.

you read it correctly sir!

what with all the confusion about what "blow and suck" meant i used "vent" to mean out and so my blow-hole fan is currently venting/blowing/sucking air UP AND OUT of the case.

i was thinking of buying an additional 120mm fan for the front of the case [it takes 80 or 120mm] as long as i can find a quiet one, or if not i figured the blow-hole 1 isnt doing too much good so switch that.
