Does the ECS K7S5A overclock?

I am wanting to replace my flacky, conflict- ridden ABIT KT7-RAID board.

I keep seeing good comments on this ECS K7S5A board, as well as super prices.

My question is, does it allow for overclocking? I want to run my 1 gig. T-bird with PC133 SDRAM
at 10 X 133. Is this possible? And yes, I do have proper cooling and ventilation.

Yes and No. The board is not an "overclockers board" as such and wasn't really designed for it. However, there have been some "unofficial" or Beta BIOS versions released for the board (that have been out for some time) that do give you some FSB speed options. In fact I believe a new one was released recently that has better options than previous versions. They are claiming some very high FSB stability with it. However, you will not get multiplier options with the board. So, you would be limited by FSB overclocking only. You can take a look at the available information on the different BIOS versions and such on this page.

The question is, will your processor run at 10x133 (1333MHz)??

If so, then you will be able to get 133 FSB out of the board. I use CPUFSB from within Windows to overclock my K7S5A to 146.7MHz FSB, and run my Athlon 1ghz at 1.467ghz. There are overclockers BIOSes, which are on the page that Buz2b linked to.

It is a very nice board, but not overly OC friendly (was never designed to be) due to lack of voltage and multiplier options, but as i say, if the CPU will do 1.33GHz, then there is nothing stopping you :)

Well, my CPU is supposed to do 1330 easily. It is an AXIA week 10 or 9 (can't remember).
But it is supposed to be very oc -able.

I was gonna try it on this board but it is just too flacky. I am afraid to do anything else with
it, afraid I would have to borrow a computer to buy my new parts on...LOL.

Thanks for the input, guys.

the only way you will be able to run your 1ghz cpu at 1.33ghz will be if it has a default multiplier of 10x (the 1ghz200 has a 10x multiplier... the 1ghz266 has a 7.5x multiplier)

well actually you may be able to run a 1.0ghz266 at that speed, but the rest of your system will be way out of spec

if you plan to overclock the k7s5a is a bad choice(no way to adjust the multiplier on that board :( ), but if you have a 1ghz(200) and you want to run it on a 133mhz bus then the k7s5a would work ok

Thanks Boonsmi. Mine is a 266 fsb. CPU so I guess I will have to decide whether
I wanna run at 1 gig with this board or step up to a board with a choice of multiplier.

Dunjon: it all depends on if your cpu is a good overclocker or not :)

some 1ghz durons will hit 1.3ghz no problem, and other 1ghz durons wont even hit 1.1ghz... hehe i guess the question is "do you feel lucky?"

as long as you keep it cool the cpu will be fine

but it will either run at 1.3ghz just fine... or, the system may not post, or it may bootup but not be stable
