Does "The Club" deter common theft anymore?

I can't imagine a situation where somebody is targeting a car so precisely that they'd try to figure out a way around the boot rather than just moving on to an easier score. It'd have to be one nice car to make it worth it.

there will always be a similar car that can be found that is not secured

my understanding is that it's pretty hard to steal modern cars in general, so anyone who is targeting the non-1995 Toyota Corollas of the world may just well have a tow truck.

Which is the point of the steering wheel club. It isn't that it will stop a thief but that it will require a bit more time and maybe convince the thief to move to the next car instead.

My club has the red blinking light on the end which is very important for security. Actually, I never even bothered to remove the tape from the battery. If nothing else, the club might be useful for fending off mean dogs.

Sure. Why wouldn't it? Perhaps they can cut through the steering wheel, but at least you can immediately eliminate all the thieves who didn't bring cutting tools. Furthermore, it eliminates the portion of the remainder that for whatever reason don't want to invest the extra time and effort required to circumvent the club. That's some degree of safety that you didn't have before.

Really that's all any security device ever does. It raises the difficulty and time investment until it is over the ceiling of most thieves. There is no theft proofing. There is only theft lessening the likelihood of.

I had to run into Harbor Freight today and parked next to a 90's Camry. Both mirrors were duct taped on, front bumper was from a different car, rear was missing entirely. Three wheels and a donut spare, half the dash missing, seats pretty torn, paint oxidized. Sounded like it ran well, but nobody is going to steal it.

As others have mentioned you can pick up an immobilizer and have it installed in your vehicle. This should also lower the insurance costs.

I can confirm its efficacy as a deterrent. I have never stolen a car protected by the Club. No joke.

I think a lot of us here could say the same.

You really wanna protect your car?

Let a Rottweiler sleep in there.
Even if they could deal with it, thieves dont want the hassle.
That is too much work, if you really want people to leave it alone just drive a royal POS. I had an 88 Pontiac 6000 that I left the key in the ignition and the doors unlocked in for 2 years straight, never got bothered. Actually got $250 for it when I sold it though.
