I recently filed a complaint against ebay to the BBB. My question is does anyone have similar experiences? Does it affect ebay enough to justify the problem? Do they ban your acct to retaliate? Do they do nothing?

BBB is worthless. Got scammed by a BBB partner company once, we complained, and of course nothing happened. I learned later others had complained about this company as well, but I guess the BB still wanted their dues.

Nope BBB is useless. I was ripped off from a home improvement company who was suppose to install my siding in which I was out of 15k. When contacted BBB all they responded back was a letter saying "Thank you for contacting us with your complaint. We have now added this "Company XYZ" in our database". Woohoo, can't believe how much they helped.

I think BBB is like one of the scam auto warranty place. They will give you all the promises that they are there to help you but when you need it they just said what, who, when, sorry we have tried our best sorry we couldn't do more.

I've used them three times with very good results. (Against Hitachi/IBM, ASUS and Microsoft/AMD.)

I might file a complaint against Apple with my iPad freezing, but their support people are just too damned nice. lol They keep sending my original iPad back while others get theirs exchanged in one shot.

I had a good experience with BBB too, it was with Dell. Dell said eff u, I contact BBB, BBB whopped their ass, some Manager level person call me and gave me full refund and UPS picked up the junk the next day. It was baak in 04 though

I guess it depends on how much the company cares about its reputation..

the problem is that in general the public thinks the BBB is a government agency that handles consumer complaints and to get them resolved. they believe that the BBB has muscle to get things fixed. in reality they are just a private company that business join to display the BBB logo. if there is a dispute and IF the company is a BBB member if they care enough to keep their BBB rating/standing then they will come to a solution.

With any one of us able to go to sites like resellerratings.com, google searches, etc. isn't the BBB simply outdated and irrelevant today?

When was the last time anyone here noticed that a business was a BBB member and used that to influence their decision to do business with them?

10 years ago, I filed a complain with a local BBB chapter to get a vendor payment. It worked.

Not sure how it is now, but about a decade ago, I filed a complaint against a employer for not paying the correct wages, and I was able to get a check to the balance amount about a month later.

I used them once when Charter was trying to pull a fast one. They said Charter was an accredited member of the BBB, so were required to respond to my complaint. It was resolved shortly after I emailed the BBB. YMMV..

The BBB has mighty few people to do what they do. They're primarily a data base. The idea is you call them BEFORE you contract with a company so, you can see what other idiots had to say who waited til AFTER they had a problem.

it works and doesn't work....depends on the value of keeping in charter to the company. However, most complaints I have heard that BBB didn't help was really not any fault of the vendor/company.
