Okay, one last time. Please bookmark so we can stop having this argument once a month.

http://techreport.com/review/23246/inside-the-second-gaming-performance-with-today-cpus

Yes, it's Bulldozer.

No, Piledriver doesn't have magic pixie dust that suddenly makes it catch up to IB.

Did you know that piledriver s higher gains are in games....??..

Obviously , no , you re still stuck almost two years ago.

Comparisons at 4Ghz , for the 1000X time...

Games are green bars , the upper one is the average
for games (moyenne jeux).

AMD made a mistake labeling it as 8 core chip, that's true(even though it really has 8 integer cores). They would have been better of marketing it as 4M/8T or just 8 thread capable CPU.

Also would have been better if AMD marketers hadn't gone on multiple forums to lie about IPC. :awe:

It is unfortunate that all people get when coming for CPU advice to Anandtech is a badmouthing contest between two entrenched camps. cbrunny, I suggest you stay away from forums and read several reviews instead. They mostly tell you all you need to know. Forum discussions always involve too much emotions and too little common sense.

In short - any mid-range+ CPU will do perfectly for even the most demanding games (maybe you'll have only 100 instead of 120 FPS). It almost always comes down to your graphics card anyway. The 8350 is obviously slower in single-threaded tasks than its Intel counterparts but it's faster in multi-threaded operations, such as encoding, game streaming and, increasingly, in modern games which utilize 6+ cores.

To sum it up - it's better to read up and research the subject so you can make an educated decision as opposed to an emotional one.

Pretty much what i said on the A10 5800 thread. If someone wants legit info on how a AMD cpu performs, i recommend reading reviews as per tulx post.
OP asks for opinions on performance and the Intel squad (even thou they don't have first hand experience with the hardware) comes in and talk about financials, single thread and how much R&D money Intel has.

In what modern games is fx faster? Pretty much equal in bf3 and slightly faster or slower in crysis 3 depending on which benchmark one uses.

So how does AMD or Intel performing well or not performing well financially benefit anyone who is not directly involved with the company? Why do we care so much? It seems as if some of us put more energy into this kind of stuff than things that actually matter. How does AMD, Intel, Nvidia or anyone else succeeding or failing affect you?

Just buy their stuff and thats all. Instead, we blindly follow them because we don't have much else going on. We need something to keep us entertained or something to hold onto I guess.

I've seen rumours around about a Vishera revision this year, either an fx-8370 or fx-8390. I can't find any actual press or solid evidence about this but the rumours are out there. Does anyone have any better intel than this useless piece of information/misinformation?

Rumours rumours rumours... all pointing towards June.

There will be a next model in Vishera line, presumably 8370 or 8380 at somewhat higher clock. It can only be slightly higher clock, around 4.2Ghz stock and maybe 4.3 or 4.4Ghz Turbo. Nothing revolutionary, just to keep the line updated by the time 4770K comes on the market.

Is AMD going to 28nm or lower any time soon?

It's nice to see them get competitive in some modern titles, but comparing an overclocked 180w chip vs a stock 77w chip doesn't impress me at all.

Is anyone running an overclocked FX-6300 in eyefinity gaming?

I know that eyefinity resolutions will put a hurting on the GPU, but I wonder what effect it has on the CPU load?

For example, maybe the CPU load would only increase by X%, whereas the GPU load would increase by X+X+X%, therefore you'd be GPU limited and the CPU would no longer be a limiting factor?

Example scenario, say running a typical game on a 7950 overclocked with an FX-6300 overclocked, eyefinity on three 1080p monitors. Currently most of my games are 1-3 years old on a backlog in Steam, so I think it's doable for those games?

Or do FX chips (FX-6300) overclocked just fall on their face when you run eyefinity resolutions?

Yeah, thats the thing really. If those i7's were at the same clocks it would be back to the typical slaughter we are used to seeing. Plus, those i7's hit 4.3ghz so easy with low temps its not even funny.

Aren't they on a yearly cadence now?

Shouldn't steamroller be shrink + improvement towards the end of the year?

Kaveri is steamroller based and 28nm. The next Richland coming is still 32nm and PD based.

And no news on FX platform. So maybe in 2014, if ever.

I don't understand all the hate. Is it the end all gaming cpu people on AT want, of course not. But it is a killer budget line that easily handles office and production apps while still hanging in the ballpark when it comes to games.

I ordered 50 fx6100's through Newegg over the holidays for a major computer upgrade at the school I work at. These were on special for $105 each. This was the regular price for the Fx 4100.
The old systems had been in service for 6.5 years, but the cases and power supplies are still like new, so drop in replacements were easy, a GB MB, 4GB DDR3, and the CPU. Considering the performance and price Intel had nothing comparable other than a low end I3 for $15 more or a something in the G series. These systems will also be in service for 5 - 7 years, just having the 6 core capability ensures that we will be in a position to upgrade software within that period while still having a platform that can handle it.

I can't understand the hating either. I just know that if somone wants to game and has a tight budget and wants to o/c then AMD makes sense. When I look to build a system, the first thing I look at is my budget, what I what to do now, and possibly in the next 6-12 months.
I don't understand folks who say buy a $119 cpu with a $150 motherboard and in six months save up and spend ~$200 on a cpu that can overclock. Maybe you can sell that $119 cpu for $75 used and get some money back, maybe.

When with amd you can spend ~$200 for a m/b and cpu that can do all things a basic system and yet still do some moderate gaming.

You decide.

Stop the hate coalition....:sneaky:

I don't see much hate. Disappointment, maybe, but stating the facts as one sees them does not automatically equal hate.

If you want to justify the use of a power hungry, mediocre performing CPU, feel free to do so. I do the same by continuing to use my dual CPU E5472 rig, but I don't recommend it to others as something wonderful.

Written on a Phenom II X4. :)

Yeah, that's right, I have two AMD systems, both my work rigs are AMD, and they do everything I need at work. Such hate.

Are people not allowed to disagree with someone anymore? Does everyone have to agree with every pro-amd statement on these forums? Is it hating on a company to think their particular cpu might not be the best solution, or to give a counter agrument when one thinks only one side of an argument is being presented or that the arguments are , I will charitably call it "misleading"?

mediocre performing CPU

The FX 8350 is mediocre at what exactly? It is power hungry i know but it's a good processor overall. I use one, i know.

Actually I would say he owned himself because I said it wasn't Piledriver.

Why would you pick a BD review (http://techreport.com/review/23246/i...ith-today-cpus) when the PD review (http://techreport.com/review/23750/a...essor-reviewed) could be as easily found?? Cherry pick at it's finest. He just proved how biased you really are, you'll do anything to portray AMD in the worst possible way.

People can disagree, there's nothing wrong with that and actually if that was the case the world would be a boring place. Nobody is forcing you to agree with every pro-AMD statement, the problem is that as soon you see someone saying something positive abouit them it bothers you, you feel like you have to answer and discredit them. A quick look on your post history reveals that. You're always ready to attack people who praise AMD.

So It's a fact that FX 8350 is a bad, mediocre, poor performing cpu??? How come it equals or even beats 3770K in a few tests, trade blows with 3570K most of the time?

OP question:
Does the AMD FX line make sense for the future of gaming, knowing that the PS4 has an 8 core AMD processor?
You guys think it doesn't make sense because it's mediocre, slow and bad. I say it does makes sense because more and more games are utilizing multiple threads in a more effective way. Even cell phones are getting quad core cpus as software is being optimized for that.

Mediocre does not equal "poor" or "bad," by definition it means neither good nor bad. Words mean things. Also, I mean in absolute terms, not per dollar, or any other variable. Compared to the 3970X, the 8350 is a mediocre CPU. I agree with you that it is close to the similarly priced 3570K.
